THE BACKSTORY
IT STARTED
IN A BACKYARD.
Two friends, a pellet smoker, and a stubborn belief that the best barbecue is slow, honest, and shared.
Rafter G BBQ didn't begin in a restaurant. It began in the backyards of co-owners Chase Goodman and Austin Peeler, two close friends who worked in the mining industry and spent their free time learning the craft of barbecue. What started with a pellet smoker grew into wood-fired cooking, Arizona barbecue competitions, and weekend orders that regularly sold out everything their smokers could hold.
After years of working at the mines, Chase and Austin wanted to build something of their own — something rooted in family, faith, and the community they called home. They invested their savings, put in the long hours, and prayed for the right place to take that next step.

IN THE WINDOW.
DIVINE INSPIRATION
THE SIGN
THEY PRAYED FOR.
The former Triangle Liquor drive-through was not what they originally imagined. But while looking through a window at the property, Chase saw a picture of Jesus inside — the clear sign he felt they had been praying for.
They moved forward, transformed the small building, and opened Rafter G BBQ in Safford on August 16, 2024. Customers were lined up before the window opened, and their first day's barbecue sold out within hours.

The Rafter G name comes from Chase's family ranching heritage in Arizona and New Mexico. Today that tradition continues through authentic Texas-style barbecue made with patience and pride. Brisket is smoked low and slow over pecan and post oak, while ribs, pulled pork, turkey, and sausage are prepared with their own signature rubs and sauces.
Rafter G BBQ was built from friendship, hard work, faith, and a genuine love for feeding people. We're proud to serve the Gila Valley and stay committed to the one principle that started it all — quality always comes first.
God Bless and Let's Meat.
